Description

A beautiful island of rock, with most of the developed lines on the SE face towards the ocean.

There are also routes on the "back" side of it, facing the cliff band, and in some of the unique rock features along the cliff.

A very scenic place to climb, but a decent hike from the hut. If you have 4wd, most climbers will drive down to this area rather than walk.

Getting There

As you exit the black scree field from, you follow a path between an island of rock and the cliff band: this is Gimluklettur.

If you're driving, you'll see it on your right as the black scree ends and the vehicle path goes out into the fields a little bit. Park at the north end of the rock for the easiest walk to the routes.

I wish I'd had time to actually climb down here. I only made it this far down the cliff for some really quick beta photos, and didn't get anything of the rock's SE face.

I'd love to hear trip reports from others and see their photos! Jan 18, 2017
