Access Issue: NO DRONES ON NATIONAL PARKLANDS
Details
All of the crags within the New River Gorge proper are on national parklands, and drone use is prohibited here. There has been some discussion about places to launch drones that are not on park property, and then flying them over the gorge. This is super poor form; don't do it. Park regulations prohibit all drone use over the boundaries without a permit.
Description
When people think of Hawk's Nest bouldering, they think of this area. Marked by a relatively open landscape compared to the rest of the New, and by the Dam standing guard in the distance. This area is one of three Hawk's Nest areas.
Getting There
From the Cotton Top parking lot, walk down the gated road heading away from the main route 16 for a little over half a mile. You'll see a sign on the trail for Hawk's Nest Dam. The boulders and the open rock are hard to miss.
