Description
**January 2022 Access update for bouldering at Catoctin**
The Park requests that the following boulders be effectively closed to climbing:
- Hog Rock trail area: Warfare/Knifewall and Chief Block/Gateway Fin
- Thurmont Vista area: Sudden/Smelted
- Chimney Rock (only the Chimney Rock area itself – the Pyramid Boulder is outside the area of concern)
Mid Atlantic Climbers asks that the local climbing community respects this request in order to protect overall access to bouldering in the Park. See here for more info.
The Knife Wall is a series of low, vertical faces left of the Chief Block in Catoctin Mountain Park. Punctuated by a striking, full-length crack amidst the bone-white lichen, the Knife Wall features sharp-but-good holds for fun, easy routes up an easily protected face.
Watch your fingertips - some of the holds are quite sharp.
Getting There
Note: The Knife Wall only comprises of the mostly-vertical climbs between the fissure and the tree, and does not include the start of the overhanging sections of wall further left.
