Buzzard Cave Wall

Tennessee > Bays Mountain

Description

This wall contains 3 sets of anchors.  Two sets are on the ‘patio’ to the right of the climbers trail at the switchbacks just below the green fenced observation platform.  The anchors for ‘Beauty’ are over the edge (on the cliff face) to the left of the anchors for ‘Greenfire’ which are on the patio, about 2-3 feet back from the edge of the cliff.  The anchor for ‘Take Me Home’ is a scramble down to the next ledge to right of Greenfire.  Look left to see the anchor, a 0.5 Cam can help secure the climber as they step out to clip in the rope for TR.  To get to the bottom of the routes, take the climbers trail down to Sunset and hang a right down the hill.  Beauty is the first route to the right at the bottom, Greenfire is on the other side of the boulder, and Take Me Home is another 10 feet past Greenfire.  The cliff is generally shady, but faces southwest so it is nice on fall and winter afternoons.Note: there is a cave about 15 feet past Take Me Home where mated pair of Vultures hatch 1-3 eggs each spring... please give the family a very wide berth and NEVER touch the eggs or chicks.

Getting There

From the base of the trail below the overlook, turn right and continue walking downhill on the wooden steps. Turn right at the base and the wall is about 50 ft farther. Access to bolts can be from the top by hopping over a couple of boulders and setting a top-rope from the large ledge.
