Valhalla Peak, Freya Tower

Colorado > Alpine Rock > Gore Mtn Range

Description

This is one of the three very secluded towers along the southernmost of the two east ridges of 13'er Valhalla Peak. Freya is the lowest and furthest east of the towers and is really the beginning of this southernmost of the two east ridges up Valhalla.

Getting There

Begin at the Rock Creek TH on the Gore Range's east side. Hike south on Gore Range trail for maybe a mile, and then turn off southwest into the woods on the very broad ridge. Stay on increasingly more defined ridgeline through the woods and downfall until you break out above treeline on the gentle, grassy slopes of Asgard Ridge's southern slopes. Continue due east across a large boulderfield, and descend loose rock and scree into the 11,600' Asgard Meadows below the north faces of Freya & Thor Towers. It took us 3 hours to Asgard Meadows from the Rock Creek TH.
