Description Suggest change

This area has a Eastern rock face on Blodgett Peak.

Find strong granite here, but be careful of large, unstable flakes.

This is a great area if you are looking for an adventure.

Additional info:
When it comes to seeking out some climbing adventure, the main attraction on Blodgett is the bouldering. Littered across Blodgett Peak's hillsides and in a canyon to its south are many blocks that have problems. Over 140 problems have been established ranging from V0 to V10+. The shortest approach to what feels like a real boulder is about 15 minutes from the parking along the main trail to the peak (Buffalo Boulder). Otherwise, approach times begin to increase with nothing being more than about 50 minutes if you learn the best routes and do not need to rest along the way. Most of the bouldering was not impacted by the Waldo Canyon Fire during 2012, but some landings have eroded away or filled in, and burned out trees have also fallen on some of the blocks. EXTREME CAUTION should be used when exploring hillsides above existing trails due to the steep and loose nature of the terrain. The problems are not very tall, usually, and the rock can be surprisingly good on some of them. The boulders are above 8000 feet in elevation and within Pike National Forest. With a little searching on the internet, you may find videos and a database where names, grades, and descriptions can be located (a print guide also exists). It seems redundant to relist everything on this website, so, have at the adventure, both online and in the woods! If you do feel the need to post climbs on this website as you discover them, please consider the years of effort that were spent developing this area...be respectful of that history...do some research...and be honest with yourself about your reasons for posting climbs (anonymity doesn't excuse behavior). Building community and creating excitement can happen through word of mouth exchanges without the use of a globally communicated/commercial platform.

Seven bouldering sectors exist on Blodgett. From north to south when viewed from the parking, they are:

Alfa Sector (sic) - two gigantic blocks visible at the northern edge of the scrub oak patch (A Front Range Classic= Bronson, V5).
Bravo Sector - no notable climbs, makes up the majority of the scrub oak hillside.
Charlie Sector - South edge of the scrub oak patch; multiple problems barely hiding in the trees.
Delta Sector - the hillside above the Canyon of Darkness, only one problem established.
Canyon of Darkness - problems exist in the canyon next to the main trail for Blodgett Peak. The Buffalo Boulder has many lines.
Upper Canyon - above the Canyon of Darkness after hiking over the "cliff;" it extends into the saddle. Many climbs spread out.
Ridge Sector- from the peak extending south, this area is above the Upper Canyon and the Runnel Boulder is near the summit.

Getting There Suggest change

From Colorado Springs, take I-25 north to exit 146 for Garden of the Gods. Turn left at Garden of the Gods Road, and drive 1.1 miles. Turn right onto Centennial Blvd., and drive 4.8 miles north as Centennial turns to Woodmen Rd. The Blodgett Peak Open Space parking area is on the left.

The approach can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour depending on how fit you are.
