Description

Two towers of purple quartzite meet up at the crack between them. Walking up there used to be a large cobble that was lodged above the space to belay, but it has fallen.

Getting There

Hike about a half mile down the tumbled rocks trail from the parking lot by Messenger Creek looking out for when you see two very large boulders on your left far up (mid-way to the wall) a talus field from the trail, then you should navigate up the talus until you see Dead Tree Wall. The Hangman Towers will be on your left if you are facing Dead Tree Wall. I am apologize I don't have a better description but I have not seen this climb on Mountain Project before, the guidebook has only a brief description.

From the description of an adjacent route to the offwidth(I think the guidebook's description fits the hands/fist crack on the climbers left side when looking at the wall), the old guidebook by Sven Olof Swartling describes getting to Dirty Inside Corner 5.6,"There are scattered rocks which deserve some mention 100 to 500 feet north of Dead Tree Wall. ... Deep inside corner and crack with overhang. ... To avoid the possibility, use an incredibly dirty chockstone".

Hangman Tower is actually part of the West Rampart. I was there on Sunday and it's just down hill (east) from Twin Ridge formation. Which puts it in the same area as Go Go tower, Bird Bath Tower, Twin Ridge, Cave Rocks, etc. According to the Swartling guide "From The Hangman tower walk up hill (slightly south) 150 feet up to the base of Twin Ridge."

It's easiest to find starting from north shore and hiking south along tumble rock trail to the Slant Boulderfield. Ascend the boulderfield angling southwest and about half way up the talus, Hangman Tower will be visible in treeline to the west. Dec 4, 2017
