Access Issue: Village Land or Preserve Land Details

These rocks are in village land, and if the owners approach you, please respectfully ask permission to climb or leave if they demand it. Above a certain elevation there is a wildlife preserve. A clear cut line and signs mark the border. Climbing permission in this area is unknown, so again, ask permission if challenged, but leave if they demand it.

Description

The Mifipro Road area is secluded by Tanzanian standards. Even though it is on the edge of village-owned farmland, you rarely have people approach you. In the dry seasons, the Masai will be around and they are most likely to come by to talk, gawk, or just be near you.

There are several large boulders scattered across the hillside, most of poor to moderate quality. Though there are only a few problems posted here, many more should be possible to find in this area. The highest quality problems yet found are on and around AB's Boulder.

Directly up from parking, there are a couple huge boulders with top-roping potential. One of them will be posted here, but the other has not yet been explored.

Getting There

From Moshi, take the main road east out of town (A23 on Google Maps) until the huge roundabout to turn south towards Tanga. This roundabout is 30-40 minutes from Moshi. If you hit Himo, you've gone too far.

From that roundabout, head south through Mwanga and Lembeni for about an hour. You'll be driving along mountains to the east for most of the way. The mountains recede from the road several times, but one of the times they end in a long, low, descending ridge with many boulders along the side. This is the Mifipro Road area.

When you see the large, black and white "MIFIPRO" sign, turn east onto the dirt road. Drive along the dirt road for about 2.5 km past farm fields and just into bush land until you come around a corner to a small opening on the north side of the road. This is a good spot to park.
