Eifel (Nationalpark) Climbing

Northern Eifel near Nideggen is a historically significant climbing area because some of the first climbing routes can be found here. Following Wolfgang Güllich’s visit to the area during the beginning of the sport climbing movement, he described the area and its atypical rock as a “vertical potato field”. The rock is a kind of conglomerate sandstone. Due to the typical issues, climbing was restricted for several years but has been fought for by local climbers and today can be enjoyed again. On a rest day you can enjoy this national park for the rest that it has to offer outside of climbing. Go for a hike and discover some of the plentiful forest or visit a lake. You can try to spot some of the wild animals which call this national park home. Also, you can reserve a guided hike with a ranger throughout the park. Finally, if you’d like to see some of the city life and local culture, Köln (Cologne) is just 65 km to the northeast.
