Details
There's a gate at the start one must pass through. Hikers are free but they charge 20 soles per mule each way (2016).
Description
A long and gentle approach, vying for trail use with cows. The area is popular for trekking, but still relatively secluded.
Peaks accessed from Quilcayhuanca include Chinchey, Pukaranra, Tullparahu, Cayesh, Maparaju, and San Juan, among others.
Maparaju is a popular acclimatization peak which ranges from F to PD conditions. San Juan is an intermediate peak from AD to D. The other peaks are higher, harder, and rarely traveled.

Getting There
From Huaraz, take a 45 minute bumpy dirt road taxi to the trailhead/gate just past and downhill from the popular Laguna Churup trailhead. Around 40 soles for a taxi or 10 soles each via collectivo.
Pass through the gate (free for hikers and 20 soles/mule in 2016) and expect a couple hour hike to the valley junction with views towards Chinchey or ahead towards Cayesh/Maparaju. Another hour takes one to the Maparaju base camp. Clear off the cow pies.
