Churfisten

International > Europe > Switzerland

Description

Jagged teeth of limestone over the Walensee lake in St. Gallen. A unique area for relatively easy access to big exposure on long multipitch routes.

See Summitpost page for a nice overview of the area and hiking approaches.

There are routes on each of the Churfisten (the plural name for the peaks here), the best rock and best routes are on Zuestoll, one of the central peaks.

Getting There

Easiest approaches are from the back side, driving to Wildhaus. Pay a road tax (10 chf) to drive up a mountain road up to a farming community, where you can park.

Approach is different for each peak, but involves a 1.5-2 hr hike up easy terrain to the ridge, then traversing across the face to the start of the climb, with steep grass or more cliff below.

Approach! Fixed ropes and other hardware get you across the cliff band to the grassy patch on the far right, where all the climbs on Zuestoll start.

Snow patches on the approach in July, good for poor planners who don't take enough water..
