Rossfels

International > Europe > Germany > Schwäbische Alb

Description

Nice little crag located near Wiesfels with a good selection of easy and moderate climbs. There are about 35 routes overall and almost none above 5.10c.

The rock is often less than vertical so it is a good place to practice technique vs raw strength, but either way a nice place for beginners or those just climbing for fun.

There are a lot of routes packed onto this small area so make sure you know what you're climbing and where it leads as it's easy to get confused or start taking the wrong line halfway up!

Getting There

Mostly the same as Wiesfels, as you start int he same parking lot.

From Stuttgart, travel south on the A8 to the B27, drive south on the B27 then exit onto the B312 towards Metzingen. Continue to follow the signs for the B312, you'll have to make some turns along the way but it's marked, when you get to Eningen you are going to take a left on the L380 (Albstrasse) towards St Johann.

Stay on the L380 for about 7km until you see a sign on your left for the St Johann gasthouse (restaurant) which if you follow the paved road all the way back you'll reach the parking area (wanderparkplatz) From there follow the trail to the left towards Glems for about 1.5km and then the trail will fork off and to the left on a dirt trail still heading towards Grüner Fels and Glems. You'll follow that trail until you reach a bench overlooking the city and take a trail on your right for another 300m to the climbing area.

When you see the fire pit and large field, you'll be at Wiesfels. Continue further along the treeline/field edge past a road for another 10 mins to Rossfels. The small summit cross will be an indicator that you've reached it.
