Description

Buena Vista is about a 10 minute uphill hike from the Vector Madness Wall. It is recognizable by its striking skyline arête, left of which is a smooth east-facing headwall with two splitter thin cracks. Right of the arête, facing northwest, is a steeper, somewhat vegetated (at least for now) face, with several diagonal crack systems. The skyline arête is essentially a continuation of the long ridge system that makes up the Vector Madness/Geezer Wall massif (the lower part of the ridge is Straddle the Pony, or as I like to call it, the STP Ridge).

As of this post, all the existing routes are on or left of the arête. The existing routes get sun until early afternoon, then go into the shade until nightfall. There is new route potential to the right, but as hinted above, development will require extensive cleaning -- fame awaits the ambitious.

The descent for all routes is a 30 meter rappel from bolts on the summit (the sling on the bolts is new as of April 2016).

Getting There

Continue on the trail from the Vector Madness Wall (somewhat cairned as of a week ago).

Thank you so much for the effort to bring us (back) to this cliff! I'm pretty sure it must've been explored back in the heyday but then somewhere along the line we all got real lazy and it must've overgrown--until you saw the potential and rekindled the Quartzite Flame! Now...there is a great climber's trail to this very worthwhile BCC destination. I had such a great time up there--awesome position high up in Stairs Gulch, unique perspective on the other ridges and areas, great views of parties on Steort's and Glass Ocean, shade for most of the day with the occasional glimpse into the sun if one peaks around the arete and at the anchors. All in all, I smiled huge and am still smiling. Thank you.

NOTE: As of 8/21/16 The entire right hand side of the entrance ramp (i.e. to get to the goods, one has to either climb the left side from the belay ledge or the right side--or all the way to the right where the O/W is...) was overrun by wasps...they are dug in deep in the corner and the cracks...and they are underfoot. We proceeded to choose the left access and had no problems with either of the 3 routes. Plus***the Taco Belay Nook is really fun too :) Aug 22, 2016
