North Face Big Rock

Washington > Northeast Corne… > Spokane Area > Rocks of Sharon > Big Rock

Description

North face of big rock. A couple climbs here, as well as a common rappel line for getting off big rock. A 60m rope will get you down to a scramble off big rock. A 70 will get you all the way off.

Getting There

Approach via Stevens creek, and hike past the base to the uphill side where the Stevens creek trail joins the connector trail to iller creek. There is a scramble up some protected 4th class to get to the base of the North Rappel landing.

[Hide Comment] This wall is considered part of the East Face in the current guidebook, and faces ENE. The climbs are accessed via a 4th class scramble to the right of Northern Aggression. Oct 13, 2016
[Hide Comment] Just to clarify, Big Rock's South face is on the downhill side of the rock and has shade from trees. The west and east faces are obvious as well, regardless of what actual degree their aspect is at, as the above poster comments on ENE.

The North Face is very obvious and well defined and very much the obvious Northern face of Big Rock, regardless of what any guidebook may say. It is the closest one to the trails that connect to Iller Creek. It has several good cracks which typifies this face, all of which have undoubtedly been climbed by the Spokane Mountaineers decades ago. Oct 14, 2016

[Hide Comment] I'm with Nick, that picture and description are of the east face. Reference the guide book written by Bob Loomis whom was climbing The Rocks of Sharon in the 70s and is also a longtime Spokane Mountaineer. Jun 11, 2020
