Description

This wall is high on the north side of the canyon between Creek Side and the Safari. It faces south, so it gets a lot of sun. The rock is typical of the rest of the canyon. It is unlikely you will see other people here. The crag is listed in the newest guide by Kevin Capps, but there are more bolted routes now than listed in the guide. Hopefully the first ascentionists will post their routes.

Getting There

Park the same as for Creek Side, The Safari, Other Critters, and The Dog House just west of Tunnel 5. Follow the trail west as for Creek Side. At the first big gully you come to, you will head uphill to the north. The Safari will be to the east higher up the hill. A cairn marks the start of the steep trail going upwards. More cairns mark the trail as you move upwards. Eventually you head to the crag by moving west You go down slightly to the base of the routes. This takes about 20 minutes. You can walk to the top of the crag on the right.

Per kevin h: the GPS coordinates are 39.7428, -105.4096. This is difficult to move to precisely due to the MP.com map not allowing us to input directly the map coordinates to adjust it. This new pin is close with using a satellite comparison of Google maps and our MP.com map to try to match them.

[Hide Comment] The new book lists less bolts on all the routes we did here than what exists. Take several more draws than the book indicates on a given route; you're welcome.

Edit: You are right Kevin, I was referring to the Denver Climbing Guide book. I now finally have a copy of your 3rd edition to Clear Creek! Feb 23, 2017

[Hide Comment] Mark, I believe you are referring to Tod Anderson's Denver Climbing Guide. You are correct, the bolt counts, grades, a couple names, and even some topo lines are inaccurate for this wall in his book. Feb 23, 2017
[Hide Comment] This wall was still very much a work in progress when I recorded info for the currently most up-to-date print guidebook. There is a second pitch above Absent Minded Professor and two routes to the left now, one with a fun move above a low roof. I took a small wire brush to a few of the left side routes on Wednesday hopefully making them even better than they already were. The stone on the left side of the wall is pretty good by CCC standards, and the routes are a lot of fun. Thanks for all the hard work putting the routes in on this wall to those who added this fine collection of routes to CCC. Mar 10, 2017
[Hide Comment] For the approach, walk low along the river until you see a steep cairned trail heading north. I messed up the approach today, but it still worked out. The crag faces a little east as well as south and starts losing sun around 2pm. It has a couple of fun lines, some short and some long. Very few people here. Mar 25, 2020

[Hide Comment] Stay low on the approach until around the 3rd utility pole. Aug 31, 2022
