Description Suggest change

60km's south of Trono el Blanco, is a deep, long canyon draining east of Baja's highest peak, el Diablo, la Encantata. There is 15km of exposed white, Providencia Granite, varying in quality from grainy to perfect, to flash flood polished. A beautiful area.

Low in the Canyon, below the fixed cable waterfall, are 100 pitches of moderate to fairly difficult traditional climbing on both sides of the arroyo. NOLS used the area for student rock climbing and climbed many, fairly high quality, single and short 2 pitch routes. They still may be camped in there.

Pico El Diablo is a classic mountain expedition up and back through Cañoñ del Diablo. Also as a traverse from the west to east with a car shuttle. The west -east traverse starts on the plateau San Martir in old growth pines and the beautiful granite pillars of the Blue Bottle and Brown Bottle formations.

Getting There Suggest change

Drive up from East, San Fellipe, Cross the playa, park at mouth of the canyon, then hike west. There are many 1 and 2 pitch climbs near the mouth of the canyon, 2 km from parking place.
