Description

Ap Lei Chau offers coastal climbing with spectacular views, on the southwest side of Hong Kong island. The routes are typically quite short, on volcanic tuff that has a similar feel to Cape Collinson.
With a few exceptions, most walls are very sunny, with minimal shade.

The area is very recently developed, so loose rock is likely.

You can download a detailed .pdf guide from Francis Haden's website.

NOTE: For now, I have just added placeholders for the different areas.

Getting There

If you have good Cantonese skills, you can hire a sampan in Aberdeen, and float to your destination. For the language-impaired foreigners, a coastal hike starts at the end of Lee Nam Road, just below Horizon Plaza. Scamper over the wall at the end of Lee Nam Road, and follow a winding path for about twenty five minutes. There is quite a bit of scrambling, and you'll come across a lot of old boat ropes, washed up wood, and other debris that have been used to tame the approach. There are also some modern via ferrata rungs installed in places as well. For the Ap Lei Pai routes, double the length of your hike.
