New Domentions

S Dakota > Needles Of Rush… > Iron Mountain

Description

If you like beautiful views of granite domes, moderate approaches, mixed climbs that average 100 feet, & no crowds- this might be the area for you!
Located in the Black Elk Wilderness- New Domentions started seeing development in the 80's by Brent Kertzman and Mike Engle. However, the area continues to evolve with the eyes of a newer generation. Rock quality varies from bullet proof to pretty darn good- depending on which way the route faces. With more traffic routes will clean up nicely- (Remember I mentioned no crowds??!!!)

Getting There

From Keystone Drive to the Iron Mountain Picnic Area via Iron Mountain Road/Senic U.S. Hwy 16A W. - aka Pig Tail Bridge Road.
From here you will be entering the Black Elk Wilnerness Area on The Centennial Trail Bypass (Trail 89b) . Please register your party at the trailhead kiosk.
Follow 89b after about a half a mile there will be a fork- stay oto the right- in 800' start looking for a climbers trail and a fallen fence post on your left-SW. In about 500 feet you will reach the New Domentions Area.
