Description Suggest change

This beautiful landscape lies beyond the Checkerboard Area, in between it and the Solitaire Boulder. This setting is clear and away from the crowds at the Buttermilks Main Area. There is lots of wildlife and it is not uncommon to see Mule Deer up hill from the area. On most occasions the deer are not even afraid of people. There are also some fairly large trees in the area and obscure rock formations along with some appearances of the beautiful Beavertail Cactus.

This area contains many climb and even possibilities for some first ascents. The boulders in this area are scattered and are of decent size.

This area is home to a few 3 and even 4 star problems, such as the one it is named for.

Getting There Suggest change

The approach is fairly simple and only take about 10-20 minutes of walking. Definelty worth it, even on rest days due to the setting.

Park as for the Checkerboard Area and walk down hill and cross a rushing creek via some logs and some rocks. From here walk up a sandy hill and cut left once at the top. There will be a washout area created by water in which you can follow. Follow the wash downhill slightly until it starts curving towards the stream. From here venture uphill and rightward going west/ southwest. You will be able to follow a trail created by people and mule deer. This path hugs a hillside. As you follow the hill, an open plain with large boulders and tree scattered throughout it. Walk down the hill and start exploring.
