Description
Called the “Left Hip/Left Leg” on Sleeping Giant maps, the cliff at the Tower Area faces southeast, is up to 50' high in places and several hundred feet long.
Outstanding features are the stone tower (built by WPA in the 1930's), a free standing spire (Chimney Rock) at the base of the cliff, Deadman's Cave (AKA Abraham's Cave) and “Devil’s Chute” which provides access from the top of the cliff.
Rock is typical Connecticut traprock but seems more abrasive than Ragged Mountain or Pinnacle. Ancient rusted pitons give evidence that climbing has been going on here for a long time.

Getting There
The Blue Trail runs along the top of the cliff, the Green Trail runs below the scree at the bottom. There is an unpainted trail marked by cairns at the base of the cliff. Shortest access is probably the Red Triangle trail from Mt Carmel Avenue to the Green Trail.
Alternately, from the top of the cliff, as you pass the tower on the Blue Trail, you can go downhill a little bit and intersect the Devil's Chute.
Chimney Rock, the free standing spire, is at the base of Devil’s Chute at N41°25.838 W072°53.388
Deadman’s Cave is at N 41° 25.890 W 072° 53.344. The easiest way to find it is to stand at the intersection of the Green and Yellow trails. Looking towards the cliff, line up the large lone pine tree. Deadman’s Cave is in the alcove at the top of the scree.
