Description
Park along the Youghiogheny River that has a few small faces that are boulderable, along with some opportunities for canyoneering, if you're into that. Most of the walls occur along the Yough River Trail towards West Newton, with one or two tall enough to be either highballs or topropes, depending on how ballsy you're feeling. Most of the rock is very solid sandstone, but takes a lot of time to dry. Basically, this isn't a destination crag, but good fun for somebody that lives nearby. However, the canyoneering on this stretch of the trail is quite good, even though its not legitimate climbing.
Getting There
From Pittsburgh, take Rt. 51 southbound all the way to the light at the C. Harper dealership. Turn left at the light and follow this road until the first road merges with it from the left and turn on to that road. Follow this road to the entrance to Cedar Creek Park. Take the main park road down to the last parking lot along the river, then walk or take a bike down the bike trail towards West Newton. The walls are all along this stretch for about a mile, after which they taper off. Coming from the south, just take Rt. 51 North until you cross over I-70. Turn right at the next light and then bear right at the Y that you come to along this road. From here, the directions are the same.
