Description
The bouldering in this area is scattered along the base of the west facing cliffs of West Rock. The area is about a mile or two north of the South Buttress and a half mile or less from the Barker Daniel wall. However, it feels secluded because you are high up on the hillside and can't see any roads. It gets afternoon sun and stays pretty cool in the summer.
The rock here is unlike any other traprock I've climbed on. It is rounded and gritty with great friction. The good rock in the area is very solid. There is a lot more rock than is listed here.
Check the "Getting There" section of each area/climb to find accurate GPS coordinates. It's hard to give directions foe these climbs so hopefully the coordinates help!
Getting There
The easiest access is through the Bishop Estate trails in Woodbridge. Park at 1907 Litchfield Turnpike (the Thomas Darling homestead). The trailhead is a couple hundred feet further up the road from the parking lot. Follow the Blue trail (see trail map) until you come to a bridge. At this point the Blue trail forms a large loop. The way you should go depends on which area you are going to.
