Trailside Boulders

N Carolina > 3. Piedmont Region > Pilot Mountain > 00. Pilot Mtn Boulders

Description

Super easy approach to the upper trail boulders, lower trail boulders may involve some second/third class scrambles to approach.

Getting There

From the upper parking lot, head down the grindstone trail. After approximately 1/3 of a mile, take a left onto the trail that leads to 3 bears gully. Rather than continuing down 3 bears gully to the main climbing areas, take a right on a trail that parallels the top of the cliff line. This follows the old route of the grindstone trail. From here, follow the obvious remnants of the trail for a few hundred meters and the trailside boulder will be on your left.

Routes from Left to Right

On the side opposite of the trail, theres a 3-4 move slabby boulder that goes up the crack and to the left (not the right seam). Best to have a spot so you don't tumble down the mountain if you fall. Feels like a V0 or V1.
