Gold Strike Canyon Climbing

Swimming, with or without clothes. Climbing, with or without clothes. Well, in and out of the pools anyway. Wouldn't want to be obnoxious now. This is a very popular area for canyoneers, hikers and soakers with the hot springs as the main attraction. At less than seven miles round trip, hiking all the way to the river is well worth it. This is in Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the canyon is under a seasonal closure from the start of June to the beginning of September. The Park Service started this summer closure because of all the chukleheads that hike to the springs without enough water and end up getting rescued or dead.

This place has tons and tons and tons of climbing which starts just after leaving the car and goes all the way to the river, getting better all the way. More classic River Mountains dacite, andesite, breccia, and granite. The rock farther away from the wash is more loose and exfoliated but closer to the wash the rock has been scrubbed clean, much of it is bullet-proof. The climbing here has the character of being polished, sloper, and weird.

Bouldering is where it's at here. A couple hundred boulder problems have been done here but there's room for a couple thousand more. Only a handful of roped climbs have been done. There's good potential for mixed climbs throughout the canyons but tremendous potential for sport climbs. For now, sport climbs remain as just potential here due to the no fixed anchor policy of LMNRA. No matter, there's still tons of doable climbing and so much more!
