Description

The Chockstone Chimney Wall faces due North and is a nice place to climb when the temps heat up. While it appears to hold only a few routes, this wall's close proximity to the Apricot buttress and the Camel provide opportunities for combos and link ups. It is both an adventurous place and a worthy destination.

Getting There

This wall is most easily approached from the table rock parking lot, so directions will be given from there. Head south along the mountains to sea trail, travel past the chimneys, and back into a heavily wooded section of the trail. Take the first climbers trail on the right headed into the gorge, which will put you on top of the apricot buttress. From the top of this buttress, look up river towards Table rock. A small rock outcropping to the right is separated by a heavily vegetated gully. Move around the top of the gully aiming for the top of this outcropping. This is the top of the Chockstone Chimney Wall. There is a modern 2 bolt anchor at the lip of the cliff, but the hangers are camouflaged and don't have rings so they may be hard to see. One double rope rap will make it to the ground, however an alternative strategy may be to fix a single line to the anchors and pick up your fixed rope on the way out.

Alternatively, it is possible to scramble to the base of the wall by shwacking, scrambling, and suffering. This is what we did, and it was sub-optimal.
