Description

This is the major alcove just across the Snake River from Massacre Rocks State Park entrance. The Owl Cove is visible from Interstate 86.

There are 6 major walls in the Owl Cove Area with excellent climbing and excellent rock. The Owl Cove is very protected and offers the option to chase the shade or sun for all day climbing. Great destination and worth the 30 min hike from the west rim.

Getting There

If you have a canoe, River Access is certainly the most fun and perhaps the shortest approach. Park just past the fee station at the entrance to Massacre Rocks. Portage your canoe along a faint trail to the river. Canoe across the Snake River. The put out is right below the entrance to the Owl Cove Area.

Alternatively, it is a pleasant and relatively flat hike from the west rim parking. Shortest access is from "P3" parking on the west rim, (30 mins). See the Beta Picture: Owl Cove Access Map https://www.mountainproject.com/v/111430365.
