Getting There

The upper cliff at the Safari area. All climbs begin from Sun Tan Ledge.

To get to Sun Tan Ledge, you can climb one of the Little Five routes, or you can hike up the loose gully on the left until you reach the level of the large tree. Then perform an exposed traverse to the right on big holds. Just be careful. This is probably not suitable for dogs.

Sketchiest part of The Big Five was going around (instead of climbing approach pitch) up the loose gully and then creeping across the narrow ledge to the area starting with Dumbo and then Harvey. After that, it was good, although the climber will be sending debris and rocks down. A 5.9ish climber would have 10 routes to choose from, or work Left to Right down the row. From Pink Elephants On Parade to Call be Bwana, it was a drill: blocky climbing; fun, juggy overhang (you wonder whether some holds can be trusted); cruise to anchors. From Harvey to A Commitee of Two, the equippers provide an anchor, so the belayer does not fall off the ledge (the rest are on big ledges). Except for White Rhino and Cape Buffalo, they are probably about 60 feet. Well-bolted. Sunny. Mar 24, 2017

I enjoyed this crag and would have given more stars if the rock quality was better. Seemed like route difficulty was a bit dependent on finding holds that could be trusted, but with a bit of an alpine mindset, the climbing is certainly fun. Thanks for the good work, Greg. (Sorry about my continuing to downrate your routes.)
Note: All the Big Five routes are shorter than shown in the orginal post. The three on the right side are about 85 ft from Sun Tan ledge, and it's better to belay Lion King, Hungry Hippos, and Bwana from the Sunburn Bucket (my unofficial name) which is up/left about 25 ft from Sun Tan Ledge to make those routes about 60 ft.
