Description

This is a huge cave. There are multiple projects underneath and a few established routes. Amazing potential for hard lines.

Getting There

Very short approach from Moose Hill road. It is labelled "roof boulder" on the attached map. Follow the main trail from the parking lot. Follow it down a steep hill until it curves to the right. the Boulder will be on your right shortly after you reach the bottom of the hill.

westwoods climbing certainly predates my own exprriance, starting 67,68.westwoods climbers have used, obviously,no trace practices to establish climbs and problems thruout the area before and since...we have always appreciated the values inherent in this unique resource.practicesto insure our continuous access are now appreciated by ALL users.we climbed four new climbs in 2015,using clean protection in natural placements, regardless of location.the rock canopy is on state land, still two new short routes were climbed clean last year. As a followup to the above...

Given your lack of a direct response to our administrators' queries, the email address you registered with us and, lack of your name on the GLCT's, About Us page, I think it's safe to assume you do not carry authority to speak on behalf of the GLCT and do not officially represent their organization.

As such, thank you for bringing the potential issue to our attention and I am happy we were able to resolve your confusion regarding this climbing spot.

Feel free to have someone who is authorized to speak on behalf of the GLCT reach out to me here or via the contact information I emailed to you and left on the GLCT's voice mail if the GLCT has any further concerns. Mar 29, 2016

GLCT - I have sent you two emails and also left a voice message with the GCLT phone number listed on the website. None have been return.

Please be advised that state GIS data and Guilford Assessors office confirms, this climbing area is within the Cockaponset State Forest property and there are no CT State bans on rock climbing or bouldering. I have even confirmed with the DEEP Director of the State Forest property that climbing is indeed allowed and that GLCT has no authority over state land. I have amended the description for the main area to educate our users on GLCT rules in hopes that we can all work together to resolve valid concerns brought to us by the land trust.

Additionally, is there a rational for why rock climbing is banned while, horseback riding and mountain biking are permitted? Does the ban include bouldering or does it apply only to technical climbing with ropes and harnesses? This seems to be a fairly arbitrary rule which only serves to alienate climbers from supporting the Trust.

We are more than happy to work with the GLCT to address any valid concerns and complaints however, your concern regarding this posting are not valid as GLCT has no authority and it isnt clear that you represent GLCT. Mar 29, 2016
