ALL SEASONAL CLIMBING CLOSURES FOR CLIMBING AND SLACKLINING WILL BE LIFTED ON FRIDAY, JULY 7TH THIS WEEK.
THANKS, EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP IN OBSERVING RESTRICTIONS DURING THE NESTING SEASON!
There are many seasonal raptor closures with varying dates and specific boundaries. These generally effect The Monument, Kiss of the Lepers, Picnic Lunch Wall and/or Smith Rock group, and possibly elsewhere. These usually run from February to the beginning of August, but each closure is usually shorter than this, and is dependent on the birds' behavior. Check this site for details: smithrock.com/seasonal-clos…
"Hank Wall"
The Hank Collins Memorial Wall is located to the right side base of The Monument at Smith Rock State Park. This 160' free standing monolith holds some of the newest moderate to harder lines here at Smith. A once undeveloped diamond in the rough, the lines that have been revealed on this wall are sure to please any crowd. A distinct roof feature located in the center of the wall and a smooth marble-like texture of the rock adds an unique quality to the style of climbing on the Hank Wall.

Turn right at the bridge and enjoy the amazing views of the northern side of Smith Rock. This side of the park is definitely less traveled and less populated on any given day at Smith.
To hike to The Hank Collins Memorial Wall, several paths have been cleared while walking towards The Monument and surrounding areas. While walking up river on the river path, look for a very large Ponderosa Pine with two distinct entrances at the base of the tree. There are two pines with simliar entrances, you are looking for the second, larger Ponderosa Pine with more defined entrances and is the second one you will encounter while walking along the river trail (hiking up stream). Follow the defined trail up approximately 25 yards and turn right onto a newly built trail that leads directly to The Hank Collins Memorial Wall.
There are several seemingly walkable paths that lead to the wall. These are washed out water trails. Do not walk up these please!
Please stay on the designated path to help with hillside erosion.
