The Mushroom Garden

Colorado > Eagle/Vail/Minturn/Re…

Description

This is a nice, shady area with good rock quality. There are 2 main boulders and a few other scattered along the hillside.

There are a lot of highballs, so bring lots of pads, and some spotters won't hurt.

Getting There

Take US Highway 24 south from I-70 through the town of Red Cliff. About 0.5 mile after crossing the Red Cliff bridge, US Highway 24 forms a Y intersection with Water Street, which heads back to Red Cliff under the bridge.

Drive down stream on Water Street (toward Red Cliff) maybe 100 feet, and the main boulder is visible from the road. There are 3 good parking spots and more along the road. There are good places to cross the river right at it. The trail to the upper boulders is going out from the left side of the lower wall following tree limbs lining the trail up.

This is across the river and down stream a little from the Klettergarden Garden.

It could be difficult to get across the river in early spring due to high water.

[Hide Comment] Man, I remember back in 2010, Scott Dodd and I cleaning and putting up routes in here, about ten I believe, in hopes of getting a guidebook together with some other areas we have info on, but we called it The Mushroom Garden after talking to some old timers from a climbing crew on Roof Rock. [Hide Comment] The name Mushroom Garden was originally coined by none other than the late Brendan Olson, considerably before the 2010 reference above. Jun 5, 2022
