Easter Island

Description

Easter Island has a distinct summit that looks like those carved stone monolithic faces (refer to the photo). It sits directly SE of Innuendo Spire. It is 60m tall on the right edge and slightly shorter and lower-angle on the left. It faces North-northwest. In early September, it gets 2 or 3 hours of afternoon sun.

Getting There

Park at the small pullout near mile marker 8 a couple of curves before Summit Lake. Walk back NE about 0.2 miles to the saddle between Mt. Warren and Rogers Peak, and carefully pick your way up the slope. Alpine Lite is a 20 minute walk directly over the saddle (it was about 50 minutes overall). Once over the saddle, walk west downhill until you see cairns. There are several [challengin] gullies to scramble down - the one furthest right was a little too loose. Traverse to the skier's left.

[Hide Comment] Fun area with a fairly easy approach. We parked in a small lot on the right at about 8.2 miles and then walked back to mile 7.8 (approximate at location of corner of the switchback that heads right towards Lincoln Lake). You can see the saddle from here. We added a few more cairns at the descent, as we did not see any until really close to the cliffs. It helped us to stay skier's left and ahead down about 45 degrees to where the terrain is steeper and you can see the towers. A gully on the right with cairns at top marks the short descent down rightwards to the grassy saddle. From here, it is easy to hang your packs and rap down the 5.8 climb to the base. There are 2 bolts and a nice rappel station in this notch. There is then a fixed stopper and some webbing to rappel back to your stuff from the summit of Moai Geddit climbs. Aug 4, 2024
