Indian Springs Canyon

California > Northeast Calif… > Castle Crags

Description

Indian Springs Canyon is the closest and most accessible climbing in Castle Crags. It is reached via the Dome Trail. It will take about 60 minutes to approach. There are 3 main access points to this short steep canyon.

Newspaper Ledge is used as the main reference point for most areas.

Getting There

1. The first you'll encounter is the Indian Springs Spur Trail. From the springs, bushwack up the steep detritus.
2. The best access to the majority of the climbing is the Newspaper Ledge. The terrain of the Dome Trail makes a noticeable change just prior to Newspaper Ledge (the path gets rocky). You will walk through some small granite boulders and switchback right. Within 50' of the switchback, exit the trail to the left and scramble up a low-angle slab and through a narrow manzanita-choked saddle between "Super Crack Spire" and "Newspaper Ledge."
3. The upper access is at the top of the canyon between "Saddle Spire" and "Snag Spire." Note that you will pass Bull-Dog Rock on your left before achieving the Spires.
