Description

A small section of beautiful water polished sandstone boulders directly adjacent to Malibu Canyon Rd. Most boulder landings have a dry flat landing. Trails involve hopping from stone to stone along the creek. Trails are also heavily vegetated, be aware there is a high concentration of poison oak. Please be respectful and do not climb on sandstone for at least three days from rainfall. Pack in & out. *Page needs contributors for boulder problem name/locations*

Getting There

When exiting Las Virgines on the 101, drive south on Las Virgenes Rd. Continue to Malibu Canyon Rd for 5.6 mi.
Alternative, is a more scenic drive involves on the PCH (CA-1) highway and turn into Malibu Canyon Road.
Parking is illegal along the road, but there is a pull out daily parking lot ~0.4mi north of the climb area.
Walk along side the road, and there are several drop down sections from the road that is not too obvious. Be careful of the approach down to the creek from the road, steep loose gravel.

This place is terrifying, I'll never go back. Not worth it. Nov 21, 2015

Yeah, I would amend the description to say that several of the boulders have flat landings. In my (admittedly limited) experience, it seems you are more often looking at a fall into a puddle, the creek, a tree, some jumbled river stones, or a combination thereof. On the flipside, you can easily scout the vast majority of the holds on the problems, and so you can fairly effectively manage your own risk.

To be fair, the rock lends itself to extremely fun movement, and sometimes having a bit of spice isn't the worst thing in the world. Just know your limits and behave appropriately. Being cautious is always preferable to being injured. Dec 29, 2015

I recently went back to this place, what a mistake it was.

I decided to take a trip up the so called "warm ups" and almost fell off the 30 foot 5.8...more like 5.10d free solo.

This place aint for the faint of heart, or the local gym bouldering rat, it will eat you alive and break some bones.

Beautiful approach too, next to the rushing traffic of beach goers and commuters. I almost had my crash pad clipped by a dump truck, dragging me helplessly down the road for the ultimate road rash. Can't wait to get back to this atrocity. Oct 18, 2016

The Tunnel Boulders is definitely an intermediate/advanced area. Most of the moderate problems are no falls, requiring mental fortitude as well as good down climbing technique. Tick marks are not tolerated. Sep 5, 2017
