Description
Chamber of Secrets includes a small group of boulders located off CO Highway 65 in Plateau Creek Canyon. The rock is Sandstone, but I'm not sure what the sub-classification is. The actual quality of the rock can range from garbage to very good. Despite not being the most solid at times, this particular sandstone can produce some of the most interesting and unique lines/holds that I've come across in the Grand Junction area. Landings that surround most of the boulders are clear and flat.
The area is situated at an elevation of 4,900 feet and can be brutally hot or pleasantly warm depending on the season. The area shades well during the morning hours and receives direct sun for the remainder of the day.
***Beware, poison ivy is present throughout many sections of this area. It's presence can be avoided easily in most cases though.***
Getting There
Chamber of Secrets is not actually located in De Beque Canyon, but it is the closest developed area, so I grouped it there for now. Head east from Grand Junction on I-70 East through De Beque Canyon, take exit 49 toward Mesa/Collbran, continue on CO Highway 65 for approximately 4 miles, and the area will be located on road left/north side of the highway. There is ample room for a pair of vehicles off the highway's shoulder directly next to the boulders.
The first group of boulders are located directly next to the parking area, and the remainder are located no more than 30 yards to the east.
