Description

On the west side of Yankee Jim Canyon, the Locomotion Boulders offer a variety of grades with short approaches in a pleasant setting. From short, thuggy overhangs, to technical highball test pieces, these boulders have something for everyone.

Getting There

From the north: Follow Hwy 89 south from Livingston until you get to Tom Miner Creek Road (right turn). Head west over the bridge. When the road tees, turn left. Make another left shortly after, and then stay left again (lower road, Old Yellowstone Trail). Follow this until the road closure and find a pace to park. From here, you'll have to walk about 1.3 miles down the road, as it is closed due to washout and rockfall. Alternately, follow the southern approach to drive all the way to the parking.

From the south: Follow Hwy 89 north from Gardiner. Turn left on E Gate Road in the burg of Corwin Springs. Cross the river, then turn right to head north on Old Yellowstone Trail. Follow this for awhile until reaching the Sphinx Creek Picnic and parking area on the left, shortly before the road closure begins.
