DescriptionThe "Gem" of Ortega. Sitting high on a ridge, this boulder can be seen from just about everywhere along Ortega. This tall stand alone boulder offers some great climbing with possibility of new lines.
The downclimb for this boulder can be a little sketchy. There are two options, downclimb the NW corner to a large ledge, or reverse the upper slab moves of 'Improvise' and drop onto pads.
Getting ThereFrom the trailhead, the trail starts to the right and winds its way through dense oak trees, eventually coming to a junction with a small dinosaur trail marker. The trail steepens as you gain the ridge, and eventually levels out. Follow the trail till you see the Jurassic Boulder on the right hand side, and work your way up a path of least resistance till you reach the boulder. There really isnt an established trail to the boulder, but its fairly easy to get through.
The hike takes about 30 minutes.
