7. Crow Hill Ice & Mix

Massachusetts > Central, MA > Crow Hill & Leo… > Crow Hill

Description

Ice forms occacionally on Crow Hill. However, it is of the thin and scrappy sort. Sun bakes it out really fast.

The cave usually has the most ice. There are several potential lines here, depending on the conditions. Left side of the cave have an ice curtain of variable quality. The overhanging section to the right of the cave could have potential for some hard dry-tooling.

Importantly, take care not to scratch up the rock-climbing routes in this popular area (=keep the winter-tools away from the rock routes!).

[Hide Comment] There is an easy (WI 2 ish) ice route that forms in the woods to the left of End Crags as well. When in fully, it goes for about 35 feet at a low angle and occasionally a bulge at the top. Easy but fun for beginners. Probably the only real WI route here. Certainly not a destination for ice climbing... but maybe there is more in town.... ; ). Jan 13, 2015
