Access Issue: Red Rock RAIN AND WET ROCK: The sandstone is fragile and is very easily damaged when wet. Details

Probably as far east as you'll go in the first pullout, this is a tall wall of fantastic rock, largely hidden from the parking lot. Climbs range in style from a beautiful varnished chimney to a bouldery overhanging crimpfest and everything in between. Sort of like Civilization Crag's big brother.

Getting There

Approach to Civilization Crag. Continue up under the "slot" climbs, and follow cairns uphill and east through a break (see beta photos). Head straight east and you'll arrive at The Chasm, and once you're at that wall, continue down and around the formation until you arrive at a short steep slot. Up the slot, and you've arrived at Dante's Wall. 20 minutes.

nice addition to the Calico Hills Mike. Thanks for your continued development efforts. Dec 28, 2014
VERY VERY good wall. Complex/confusing approach. Fine new addition. Really good rock!!! Dec 28, 2014

Yeah, the best way to get to this wall is to go to Civ, then go up the gully with the three tens in it and out the top. Cut across about level with that for a hundred yards or so to Dante's Wall. The Chasm is a good landmark to keep you headed in the right direction. Dec 29, 2014

Went out today and added a bunch of cairns on the way to Dante's Wall. Should be easier to find now.
EDIT: People keep knocking them down? Three attempts to rebuild them, they keep disappearing. Dunno... Dec 29, 2014

Met some other climbers there last weekend who approached the wall via Red Springs. They said after the initial hill it was quite level. Cairns are still in place from Civ crag but are not apparent unless you go up through the slot, as opposed to out from the 5.4 corner route. Great wall for sun in the winter. Dec 17, 2015
Great crag, with some fun lines. Cairns were a great help leading from the slot at Civ Crag east to Dante's! Thanks. Rock is quite cold now, and the Southwest wall isn't seeing sun in the winter. Will be perfect when it warms up a bit! Definitely worth the approach. Dec 29, 2015

Thank you again Mr Kimm for bringing a smile to my face. I look for climbing areas you have established. I would love to donate to the Michael Kimm gear fund for establishing routes! This area is worth the trek and a lot of the climbs stay in the shade until late morning. It was a nice break from the sun. The cairns are very helpful. So thanks again, you're appreciated.

We did find the wall from Red Springs picnic area. This way is easier approach to make with your dog, rather than taking them for a bouldering jaunt through the Civilization Crag. Oct 14, 2016

Job well done on a great wall. These routes are really fun. Nov 13, 2016
Huge thanks to the setter for this gem of a crag. Comfortably bolted, quality rock, excellent view, and a fun approach. Catches the warm afternoon sun nicely in the winter. Jan 9, 2019

Very nice crag. "20 minutes" for the approach *if* you mean "from Civilization Crag" and you've done it once so you know where you're going. Otherwise budget considerably more. 3 days ago
