Description Suggest change

Klinger Spring cliff is of the same rock band as Pete's Pile, but features much more developed routes, including 30+ sport climbs, some mixed climbs and dozens of trad routes. Most of the climbs are a full 30m long, and can be quite sustained. The majority of the climbs run in the 5.9 to 5.10+ range.

Sensitivity of the area:
The cliff line that contains Klinger and Pete's has been identified with a specific endangered plant, and is otherwise considered by the Mt Hood National Forest Service to be an environmentally-sensitive area. This cliff has the potential for restriction and possible closure if not treated respectfully. Please tread lightly on the trail and at belay areas, and feel free to lend a hand in the maintenance of this beautiful spot. Please respect the plants growing along the base of the crag, like wildflowers & mosses. Dogs are welcome, but if they might chase wildlife, run around, or dig, please keep them on a leash!

Ticks:
Don't wander too far into the brush in the late spring/early summer, as there are tick here.

Getting There Suggest change

Klinger Springs is located off of HWY 35 on the east side of Mt. Hood. It is about an hour and twenty minutes from Portland, going through either Hood River or Government Camp.
To get to Klinger Springs from Hood River, follow HWY 35 south for 23 miles. Just after crossing a river labeled “E Fork Hood River” there is a large pullout on the east side of the highway (the trailhead of Zigzag Trail). Park here.
The trail goes up and to the right, and then switchbacks to the north. About 100 yards up the trail, you will reach a small trail that goes up and right (east). Follow this trail as it switchbacks up the hill. After about 10 minutes, you will come into a large scree field. Continue on the trail when it goes back into the woods and up to the base of the cliff. Routes are listed from the top of the trail heading to the right (south).
