Description

Keep a low profile. Lots to explore and there is a ton of both bouldering and climbing to be done.

I have taken down the previous info I posted on this area due to the inaccurate information.

If anyone is interested in checking this area out, please email me at ryantlippe32@gmail.com. I am interested in exploring it a bit more.

(exercise with discretion)

Top access: Take the exit onto Greenpond road and take the first right. Continue up Bigelow road until you reach a small parking area with a trailhead marked with white paint. Take the trail up, it follows most of the top of the cliffs. There is a topography map and information station about 60 feet up the trail, take note of the topography info, It is important.

Bottom entry (3 options, look at them on a map and decide)
2 require you to walk between houses to get to the cliffs:
1.)Travel through Vassar Road, pick a spot to park and walk between any two houses on the right, then follow the wall going left to find the bigger cliffs.
2.)Travel through Deerhaven Lane and find a spot to park. Go between two houses into the woods (preferably at the end, you can see the cliffs very clearly) continue a little, and you will be at the cliffs.
3.)Park next to the soccer/baseball field on Greenpond Road. Explore the left side of the field, there is a trailhead or two that leads into the woods. This would avoid going onto private property but would be a longer/harder approach through the woods.

Access is somewhat unknown. Details

Getting There

Take the Greenpond Road exit off of Route 23/Hamburg Turnpike ^then follow directions stated in access details.

I live on deerhaven. Just a couple things to make you aware of. The large boulders that make up the bottom half of the cliff can move without warning so you need to test them before putting all your weight on them. Also, we have a very high occurrence of copperheads here. If your planning to hike in this area watch where you step as they blend in and watch where you put your hands when scrambling up the rocks. I have heard stories of people seeing rattlers on the cliff but I have never seen one in the 30+yrs I have been here. Also, the 2 houses mentioned both have dogs that are frequently outside in the yards. If you plan to walk through the property be prepared to run fast and dodge dogs. You can follow the watershed trail from bigelow along the top of the cliff and work your way down. Just dont park in the bus turn around during the school day. Access from Vassar will be pretty difficult as everything in front of the cliffs is private and the houses sit directly in front of the cliff which basically would put you in someones back yard to start.
