Description Suggest change

The Northeast face of Ellingwood Point draws your eye to the possibilities, with its broad vertical that passes by on your way to the more popular Blanca Peak's Northeast face. The beauty of the isolated valley puts you in a reverie that dismisses how "chossy" these mountains are...until you start climbing.

Getting There Suggest change

Access is via the Huerfano River Trailhead. 0.7 miles northwest of Gardner (Colorado 69), turn left on to County Road 550. Around 12 miles, County Road 550 continues straight/slight left at a junction and turns into County Road 580. At a little over 22 miles, you will reach the trailhead. Disbursed camping is available in this area.

Hike the Lily Lake Trail. Look for the junction at 1.1 miles/10,720 feet. The trail climbs to the north at this point. Continue hiking until you reach 11,600, and trail seems to have reached its furthest point west. You will have great views of Ellingwood Point and Blanca Peak. Hike off trail to the Northeast face.
