Description

The Rune Stones is a small, stand-alone boulder field offering some free standing Antietam Quartzite boulders to climb on. The overhanging faces tend to have positive holds and therefore offers some fun dynamic climbing that is at most moderate difficulty. The stone is mostly super solid and sometimes just pure white quartzite!

Not a super high quality or major spot by any stretch, but if you're wanting to boulder some, avoid crowds and you're already in the area, then this spot will meet your wants/needs!

Getting There

From Highway 30 turn South onto the 997 (there's a Rutters at the intersection) and follow it until you reach a stop sign (2-4 minutes from the 30). At this four way stop take a left onto White Rocks Road and follow it into the woods. Shortly into the woods you'll come upon the "Pond Bank" climbing area's parking (known by the large water towers). Continue on the dirt road for 1.0 miles making sure to stay left at the fork. Pull off into one of the obvious parking pull-offs. ** If you've hit the quarry on the left you've gone just a tad bit too far; park just South of the quarry **

Head West (left from the direction you drive in) from the parking spot and into the woods, and the boulders are on the West face (downhill sloping side) of the ridge.
