Getting weather forecast...

Description

Just outside the village of Kalpa, there are several nice crags. Most of them have just begun to be developed; stay tuned for more routes.

In May/June, the sun hits most of the crags around 10am, and are climbable until 6-7pm; weather was sunny but not too hot. Around 3pm the wind picks up a bit, but not enough to be a problem except for communication on long routes.

The cliffs should be climbable from early May to end of October. In August there is some rain, but Kinnaur is mostly shielded from the main Indian monsoon.

Everything can be climbed with a 60m rope.

Getting There

Kalpa is a cute village perched up high in the Sutlej gorge, with a spectacular view of Himalayan peaks and the dramatic gorge (14000ft elevation change from river up to peaks). It is a 20 minute (Rs15) bus trip up from Rekong Peo, and has several nice hotels and a lot of charm. Recommend staying here.

From Kalpa, walk for 20 minutes along the (flat, paved) Kalpa-Roghi road (the old Hindustan-Tibet highway) towards Roghi. You'll encounter a major creek. The cliffs are above the road, next to the creek. The first crag (Definition Wall) is only five minutes up; Theorem Wall is a 20 minute hike up.
