Details
You can rock climb in the following locations:
- Home Cliff Centre Wall
- Twin Ribs Down Under, Eastern Block and The Left Twin
- Western Cwm West.
Description
Eastern Bloc is a sweet chunk of granite located right next to the Twin Ribs (just right of Down Under). The climbing is all low angle to off-vertical.
The rock is very strange... In a good way! A mix of slab, tiny holds, huge jugs and even a hueco and some small pockets. The easier climbs here are mostly climbing on good holds for the bottom half, but as you get up higher the holds disappear and then there is usually some sort of tricky / inobvious friction crux. The harder lines are straight up hard friction the whole way; blank-looking, improbable, and bold.
If you want to master this tricky subset of climbing (slab) and you are in the Ottawa area, look no further than Eastern Bloc. Note : Unless otherwise stated, the grades here are almost always on the stiff side.

Getting There
Same approach as for Down Under, but after the wooden ladders (before the scrambling in the boulders) head right on a trail that leads you to some very low-angle slabs and a handy fixed line. Climb this to the top and continue shortly to the base of the wall, which is marked by a sign.
