Blue Trail Section
Connecticut
> Western Coastal…
> Webb Mtn Park
Description
Rock predominantly Schist with layers of amphibolite and gniess and part of the Collinsville Formation. The rock is gray and silvery with medium to coarse grains and dark, fine to medium grained amphiholite and hornblende gniess.
Blue Trail section is just that: up the blue trail. There is a cliff, about 40 ft. across and 50 ft tall. Blue trail cliff is mostly sunny as it goes above the tree line a little bit.
It has really interesting grooves inlaid into it which makes for tiny sharp crimps galore. It's also positive to an almost imperceptible degree so it's not hard climbing if you just stay balanced forward.
There is a swampy pool twenty some feet from the base of the cliff so watch out for skeeters!
To the climber's left of the cliff there are a few boulders with very difficult routes on them.
Getting There
Rt 25N, right onto Rt 111, follow all the way past Masuk Highschool, then next right onto East Village rd. then 3rd left onto Webb Circle, continue straight onto Old Fish House Rd.
For blue trail section, park in the little lot, then continue down the road and take a left onto the Blue trail up a sharp incline. Walk until you hit the cliff. For FIsh House Rd section park at a nearby unused camp ground.

[Hide Comment] After reading the warning about the "swampy pool twenty some feet from the base of the cliff so watch out for skeeters," we made sure to bring our ThermaCELL with us and had it at the belayer's feet. Worked like a charm, even in mid June.

[Hide Comment] Nearly grabbed a snake on a hold near the top of Gargantua today. I don't think it was a copperhead but it was quite small and it's hard to tell when they're babies. Might be a good idea to check the holds first before climbing here.
