Description

Solid vertical stone blocks that offer lots of one and two finger pockets and crimps. 15ft to the top and a long, sustained traverse if done one far side, up through and over the keystone and onto the opposite far side. Not a bad way to train if in the area and cant get away to an actual established climbing area.

If you can kayak launch from the tunnel and go up river a few hundred feet. There is a lot more of the same pocket/crimp stone around and under a rail road bridge. This spot offers water soloing and overhanging problems with nice, usually deep enough, water landings. Again not the most ideal, but if you cant get away but still want to climb outdoors these two spots aren't bad at all.

Getting There

Front street in Newport along the river. The tunnel is just past the water processing plant if coming from the 34/Front St intersection.
