Access Issue: there are a toll on the road to haegefjell that is the main area for both multipitch trad and excellent granite bouldering Details

Description

From tom atle bordeviks miniguide : "Nissedal is located in the central southern Norway in a region called Telemark. It is home to a number of striking granite domes dotted around Norway’s sixth largest lake, Nisservatn. These domes offer some great climbing for those seeking long routes on perfect granite similar to that glaciated granite domes found at Toulomne Meadows near Yosemite..... When to go. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit the Nissedal region. Midsummer can be ok, but if there is no wind the insects can be a 'pain', especially mosquitoes which can be numerous around Hægefjell. This can be solved by camping down at Nisser Hyttegrend and moving fast up the first couple of pitches to catch any wind. In summer you should bring a lot of water on warm days as both Hægefjell and Baremlandsfjellet face south. Climbing on Hægefjell starts usually in May; this depends on how much snow is left after winter which also dictates when the road is opened. If the road hasn't opened yet, climbing on Baremlandsfjellet, at a lower elevation and with a sunny aspect, should be possible.

Getting There

Access to the Nissedal area is a little tricky, but don't let this put you off.
Flying - You will need a flight to Oslo (Gardermoen) or Sandefjord (Torp).
airports you will need a car to get to Nissedal. There are plenty of car hire options from both airports
and links to these are found from each airports website:torp.no andosl.no
Sailing - DFDS sail from Newcastle to Kristiansand, Fjordline sail from Newcastle to Stavanger:
www.fjordline.co.uk anddfds.co.uk. Both companies sail three times a week.
Kristiansand is nearer to Nissedal but both places leave the option to try some of the fine climbing around the south and south west coast of Norway.
Driving from Sandefjord Torp - From the Airport follow signs for E18. Drive south and follow the E18 towards Larvik/Porsgrunn/Kragerø. Just as you arrive Kragerø, take Route 38 towards Drangedal. Continue on Route 38 past Drangedal then take a left on road 358 which takes you to Treungen. The driving time is approximately 2 hours.

Beautiful area. Reminded me a bit of Squamish but with less people (and a bit further from a town).

A resource I found useful: summitpost.org/h-gefjell/85… Jul 25, 2016
There is a Norwegian guidebook available for this area (and it looks like most of the route topos were copied from it). It's available here: osifjell.no/arkiv/klatrefor… Most text can be copied/pasted into Google Translate.

The grades follow the Norwegian system. You can find a table to convert it to whichever one fits your fancy best here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_(climbing)#Comparison_tables

A few things to get you started:
taulengder - rope lengths
fra gml. fører - From old guidebook
stand - belay
klatre - climbing
utstyr - equipment
kiler - nuts
hylle - shelf May 26, 2017
