Description

This area is a work in progress.

The bouldering described in this section includes the boulders found along CO Highway 141 between Gateway and the Mesa/Montrose County line.

The presence of boulders begins shortly after Gateway and continues sporadically until the county line. Accessing boulders located on the Highway's north side requires a crossing of the Dolores River. However, approaches for the boulders located on the Highway's south side are short and easily accessible.

Additionally, the rock is made of premium quality Wingate sandstone, and the locale is far removed from any major developments.

Getting There

If approaching from Grand Junction, take U.S. 50 southeast, then turn right onto CO Highway 141 southwest to Gateway. The drive time is approximately one hour and the distance is roughly 60 miles.

I guess if this information is going to begin showing up on here, I can contribute my knowledge about many of the lines. This area has seen another wave of development over the last few years, so there's a lot of stuff that isn't in my guidebook. I know that many of the climbers that have been part of that development would prefer if the area remained 'off the grid', but it seems inevitable that it will start showing up places. Nov 26, 2015
