Description

Vasquez Rocks is a unique natural area in northern Los Angeles County. There are numerous spectacular rock formations from tilted slabs to steep overhangs and caves. The rock consists of coarse grained sandstone conglomerate.
The area derived it's name from the notorious bandit, horse rustler, and murderer, Tiburcio Vasquez, who used the rocks and caves as a hideaway from the law in the late 1800's.

Getting There

About 40 minutes north of Los Angeles, between the San Fernando Valley and Palmdale/Lancaster off CA-14 (Antelope Valley Frwy). Approximately 10 miles north of Santa Clarita, exit Aqua Dulce Canyon Rd. and turn left and continue over CA-14 until it turns into Escondido Canyon Road. Follow the signs to Vasquez Rocks Natural Area, on the left (south side of the road).
Vasquez Rocks is a Los Angeles County park and is open 8 am - 5 pm daily.

Whats up Benjamin Chapman? I know you have your hands in TC but i dont see any established routes on this page, so whats the point?

Do you know any established routes you can add to the area or maybe add any new development made since adding this to mp 3 years ago? Jan 20, 2017

I'm curious about this area as well. Been hiking here since I was a kid. I visited there last month and found what looked to be a bolted anchor up on the top of pride rock (the big pointy rock formation featured in all the car commercials). I've read that Vasquez Rocks is top rope only. Feb 26, 2017

I visited today. The ranger at the visitor's center told me that there is absolutely no anchor building or ropes allowed. He said that there is a lot of bad information out there about rock climbing at Vasquez. They allow scrambling and climbing without anchors and ropes as well as bouldering. I did a few boulders around the park from around the V0 through V3 range, but I was very hesitant to do much more, as the rock is very flakey and fragile in many places. Super fun area to explore, though. Dec 23, 2017
