Access Issue: Technically not an access issue, but rock knocked off the east face can descent quickly to the highway. Details

Description

The Willow Creek Pass Fin [99 Mile Rock] is the fin-shaped outcrop of rock about 3/4 miles southward from Willow Creek Pass towards Granby on CO Highway 125. The rock appears to be the emergence of two types of volcanic rock? The east face of this fin offers some slightly overhanging sport routes of more than 100' in length. About 3 miles downstream toward Granby north of the highway are more fins of similar character, but they are somewhat shorter.

Getting There

Take Highway 125 about 22 miles north of Granby, and find the Willow Creek Pass fin on your right with parking on the gravel road that begins on the left side of the low end of the rock outcrop.

Has anyone climbed here yet? I have hiked out there a few times to check out what was higher up the hillside and a good anchor for the main face was not really visible. Does anyone have any photos of what the top out of that climb would look like? That would be much appreciated! Feb 27, 2014
Ryan,

I have added data for 2 routes. Help yourself to the Working Traverse route to get above the good potential lines of the east face. The traverse is a little sketchy in that there are many big loose/sitting boulders on the ridge top and good pro is not obvious or easy. I think we took the hangers from the start of the working Traverse, but the bolts [w/nut?] are still on the fins north end. You say "not visible", that is likely as we used dark colored welded cold shuts for this kind of exploration.

The rock certainly could have some long steep good sport routes, but the highway is busy during summer, and during those times there, I did not have enough people along to safely manage rock removal with the highway below. Feb 28, 2014
